Paws & Promises: Including Your Dog in Your Wedding Ceremony
For many couples, a wedding wouldn't be complete without their furry best friend by their side. Dogs are family—loyal companions who’ve walked beside you through every chapter of life—and it only makes sense they’d be there as you begin the next one.
If you're thinking about including your pup in your ceremony, you're not alone—and we say go for it! With a little planning, having your dog at your wedding can add joy, laughter, and some of the most memorable photo ops of the day.
First things first—make sure your venue welcomes dogs. At Rockin’ TJ Ranch, we love seeing dogs as part of the celebration. With 10 acres of manicured grounds and plenty of outdoor space, it’s the perfect setting for wagging tails and grassy paws. We’ve even had pups serve as ring bearers and flower dogs!
You’ll be a little busy (you know, getting married), so assign a trusted friend or hire a pet handler to be in charge of your dog. They’ll make sure your dog is fed, watered, exercised, and happy, and can take your pet home or to a quiet space after the ceremony.
If your pup is part of the processional, do a quick rehearsal. Familiar smells, people, and excitement can be a lot for even the best-behaved dogs. Practicing their big moment—whether they’re trotting down the aisle or just sitting sweetly up front—can help everyone feel more relaxed.
There are endless adorable options for doggie wedding attire—from floral collars to bow ties and tuxedo harnesses. Just make sure your dog is comfortable and that nothing restricts their movement, vision, or breathing.
Not all dogs love crowds or loud noises. Some pups are better off being part of portraits and skipping the ceremony. You know your pet best. Their comfort and safety should always come first.
Let your guests know in advance that your dog will be part of the ceremony—especially if anyone has allergies or phobias. Most guests will be thrilled (and will likely sneak in some extra pets and treats).
Make sure your photographer knows your pup will be present. Many photographers love incorporating pets into wedding photos and will help you get some frame-worthy shots—muddy paws and all.
Your wedding should reflect who you are—and for many couples, that includes four-legged family members. With the right planning and a little flexibility, your dog can absolutely share in your big day. After all, love is best when it’s shared with those who love us unconditionally.
At Rockin’ TJ Ranch, we’ve seen firsthand how meaningful (and joyful!) it is to include pets in wedding celebrations. If you’re thinking about a dog-friendly wedding in the mountains of Montana, we’d love to help make it a reality.
Because every love story deserves a wagging tail.
